Cystic Acne Treatment

Perhaps you had the notion that cystic acne treatment entails a process equivalent to explaining rocket science to a 3 year old. Well, that will be a difficult task even to the older academic giants among us. Cystic acne treatment is fundamentally different from the treatment of common acne and rosacea. Cystic acne is the most severe form of acne, far more damaging to the skin than the more familiar whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples.

The underlying causes of cystic acne, however, are the same as the kinds of acne that manifest themselves without cystic acne’s deep and severe inflammation. Cystic acne spreads inflammation deep into the skin. In the most severe cases, the Propionibacterium acnes bacterium can spread from the pores into the gums, joints, and even brain.

Cystic acne leads to a scarred skin tissue that will leave permanent marks on the skin. You will spot easily visible marks on the skin. Immediate cystic acne treatment is therefore paramount to clear skin. Understanding the type of skin you wear is the first step in cystic acne treatment. Using the wrong products on the wrong skin type may be very detrimental.

Cysts filled with pus and dead bacteria hurt when they are touched, and they are often completely covered by a horny layer of skin so that they cannot drain. Cysts usually start out as whiteheads in a hair shaft. Various sources of inflammation (too much sugar in the diet, bacterial infection, a shortage of omega-3 fatty acids, or a combination of all three influences) cause an unusual amount of exfoliation of the skin cells lining the pore.

This tiny ball of dead skin, however, gets stuck in the pore because of the hair in the hair shaft. Sebum and the bacteria that normally feed on it get trapped in the pore. If there is even a little room for the sebum to drain out, the result is just a whitehead, blackhead, or pimple. If there is absolutely no room for the sebum to drain out, however, the natural oils of the skin become “rancid” and then the immune system attempts to drain them through the bloodstream. The impacted pore becomes inflamed and grows larger and larger, while the uppermost layer skin grows over it, trapping infection and inflammation inside.

Antibiotics do nothing to open the pore. There is no way to treat cystic acne without opening the pore; although it’s not a good idea to try to open them on your own. Cystic acne is one of the few kinds of acne that actually benefit from treatment with Accutane or Retin-A. These potent chemical concentrates of vitamin A cause the skin to break open over the pore so it can finally heal. The problem is that these treatments can also cause severe inflammation of skin that is not affected by acne, and there are very serious health side effects associated with the use of these medications. For many sufferers of cystic acne, however, Accutane and Retin-A are almost miracle drugs.

Is there a natural method for cystic acne treatment? Frankly, there isn’t. Once cystic acne is under control, however, other natural treatments for acne can help keep it from ever coming back.
